The back is one of the commonly neglected but crucial parts of the body. even fitness buffs sometimes focus more on the prominent muscles for display such as biceps and shoulders, while forgetting just how crucial the spine and the back is in maintain posture and generating the body’s core strength. Through years of ill-care and bad posture, lower back pain can occur. Once this happens, one of your treatment choices is chiropractic care.

Safe and non-invasive

Chiropractic care as a solution to lower back pain is preferred by a growing number of people because it is non-invasive and generally successful for most patients. Before resorting to surgeries or other types of painful medication that can further complicate your health, trying a few weeks of chiropractic treatment is advised by a number of health care professionals.

Back pain classifications

Chiropractors generally classify lower back pain according to the intensity and duration of the pain. For pain that occurs for less than six weeks, you have what is called acute back pain. For pain that ranges from six to 12 weeks, the affliction is called sub-acute back pain. More than 12 weeks and the condition is called chronic back pain. Flare ups or recurring back pain is experienced when the back ache comes and goes, especially after certain activities. Depending on the type of pain, the chiropractor will choose a suitable type of treatment.

Common causes of back pain

Apart from the duration of the pain, however, there are also several common causes to back pain that a chiropractor will look into. One of the common causes, for instance is bad posture and a lack of exercise and training to strengthen the back. This leads to the strain and bruising of muscles and ligaments in the back. Another usual culprit is scoliosis, or the abnormal curving of the spin, which mainly a genetic disease that can be worsened by bad posture and by unhealthy lifestyles. This is particularly common in young girls as well as the elderly, and can also be caused by poor calcium intake.

Sprains and slipped discs

Back sprain or facet syndrome is another common illness of the back, which is brought about by sudden movement. This is especially common in people living sedentary lifestyles and whose bodies are not used to the sudden stress. Finally, slipped discs are another very painful and quite common cause of back problem. This is more difficult to treat and may require other back specialists to treat especially in severe cases. It is often cause by heavy lifting especially on people with weak backs.

Diagnosis

Once the diagnosis has been made, the chiropractor has several options. Light touch treatments are still possible, but a good number of chiropractors work with deep joint treatments that aim to correct the misaligned bones, muscles, and ligaments in the lower back. This will usually take treatments lasting several weeks. In most situations, this is enough to cure the lower back pain. Left untreated, lower back pain can result in structural weakness that can damage other parts of the body, including limbs and internal organs that rely heavily on the strength of the back muscles.

If you are experiencing lower back pain, a visit to your local chiropractor is one of your best choices.
